Tefilin Stand
Shaped like a giant Tefillin, the new Tefillin stand at Maaras Hamapela attracts the attention of potential 'customers.'
The Rebbe's Tefillin Campaign is one of the main projects that Chabad of Hevron promotes amongst the soldiers. We arrange for Tefillin to be brought to soldiers on duty, on base and in remotely located outposts. But occasionally we encounter a soldier when we are unarmed - without our spiritual army equipment. To make sure there is always Tefillin within reach, we have set up what we call Pinot Tefillin, literally translated, Tefillin corners. These are little stands that have Tefillin available for a Chosid to put on a soldier – or as in many cases – for the soldier to put on Tefillin himself.
Our original Pinot Tefillin were a gift from Larry Siegel and Ami Pykovski of Los Angeles. After six years of frequent use, these Tefillin outposts are showing signs of wear, especially the one at Maaras HaMachpela. Last summer, when the extended Turell family came to Hevron to celebrate the Bat and Bar Mitzvahs of Brad Turell’s children, Aliyah and Yaakov Yosef, Brad and his brother Harvey decided to sponsor a new Tefillin stand for the Maara and dedicate it to the newly Bat/Bar Mitzvah siblings.
The Tefillin stand has three shelves in the top part and a drawer in the base. It is well stocked with Tallaism/prayer shawls and Tefillin.
Recently the new Tefilin stand was inaugurated at a presentation to a group of soldiers in the Maara.
