Hevron Celebrates with Alex from Coconut Grove
December 12, 2009
At first Rabbi Felig's suggestion to make his Bar Mitzvah in Hevron seemed unconventional to Alex Swerdlow and his family. Even a little bizzare. But when they thought about it more - they decided to go for it!
Rabbi Felig is the Rabbi of Chabad in Coconut Grove, Florida... a good friend of Chabad of Hevron.
Alex's father, Richard realized how important it is to show the soldiers that even Jews living in Florida are thinking of them and appreciate their dedication in their service and the risks they take.
After his Aliyah in Maaras HaMachpela, Alex and his family were joined by soldiers for the festive Bar Mitzvah meal. The soldiers don't often experience such open appreciation. They sang and danced and welcomed Alex into the world of Jewish manhood.
The Swerdlows and friends and family who joined them were shown the historical sites of Hevron: Beit Hadassah, Avraham Avinu Shul and of course the Chabad Cemetary and the Kollel Building.
