On the first night of Chanukah, we were honored to host Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, to light his first candle at the Mearat Hamachpela. His message was heard loud and clear, that the holiness and historic connection to this Holy site is above and beyond politics. Herzog’s connection to Hebron started with his visit to the Rebbe on Simchat Torah together with his father, Chaim, then ambassador to the UN. The Rebbe encouraged him, that as a Levi, he has to announce to the UN that Hebron and the Machpela belong to the Jewish people.
